In the first half year of 2022, the Chinese smart phone market sold around 140 million units, 14.4% year-on-year decline. Against the backdrop of declining sales in the smart phone market, foldable-screen phones are the opposite, with demand for some products outstripping supply.

However, in order to be thin and light, the space inside the foldable-screen phone is extremely small. The heat is easily concentrated in a single heat generator, which has an impact on CPU efficiency and OLED screen life.

At present, foldable-screen smart phones will face two major heat dissipation challenges.

1. The changeable foldable-screen form, which will change in thermal capacity when folded and unfolded.

2. The internal distribution of components is not balanced, and the thermal environment on the main board and SoC side will be worse.

Due to the design of the foldable-screen, the part where the pivot is located is where conventional cooling materials cannot be applied. Therefore, the cooling system will be divided into two parts, left and right part, making it a parallel-connected cooling system.

The second problem is that the internal components on the left and right side are not evenly divided, and the main board and SoC side will face more heat dissipation pressure.

In terms of a basic cooling system, some mobile phone manufacturers already use the VC liquid cooling solution + thermally conductive gel + multiple layers of graphite sheets + high grade bend-resistant graphite sheets. In this system, the bend-resistant graphite material creates a heat tunnel through both sides. As the graphite sheets have a high bending capacity to respond to the unfoldable or foldable application at any time. According to the industrial data, the traditional graphite sheet will break or fall off after 200000 times of bending, while the bending resistant graphite sheet produced by Desen is more excellent in thermal performance. After 200000 times of 180 degree bending, the thermal performance of the material will only drop by 3% - 5%, lower than 9-15% of the sector structure.

Dasen was established in 2011 which is mainly engaged in the research and development, production and sales of pyrolytic graphite sheets.

Dasen has a complete line of graphite sheet. Our general performance, high performance, bend-resistant and UTS overlay graphite sheets can effectively solve the heat dissipation problem of foldable-screen phones. At present, Dasen has supported many clients and abroad to solve the heat dissipation problems on the mid-frame and screen.

For foldable OLED screens, can use the Dasen single-layer bend-resistant graphite sheets .

For CPUs, can use the Dasen laminated high-performance graphite sheets .

For mid-frames, can use the Dasen single-layer graphite sheets .

For wireless charging, can use the Dasen single-layer graphite sheets .

As a strategic partner of Samsung, Dasen high thermal conductivity and bending resistance graphite sheets have been used by Samsung for many years, including the Galaxy Fold and Flip foldable-screen smart phones.

Thermally conductive graphite sheets have very good properties and can be combined with a variety of materials to dissipate heat, such as metal, adhesive, plastic and other materials. It also has low thermal resistance, light weight and high thermal conductivity.

In the 5G era, graphite sheets with high thermal conductivity are well developed to meet the growing demand in the field of industrial heat dissipation through thermal management solutions, and also provide new solutions for thermal management in the electronics industry. As technology continues to innovate, thermally conductive graphite sheets will develop more and more excellent thermal conductivity and develop a wider range of applications.
