The design challenges encountered in high-power LED lighting solutions are thermal design and overheating protection. LED light source requires power and thermal management system, because compared with other light sources; most of the electric energy supplied to LED is converted into heat. If there is no proper thermal management, the heat will affect the LED life and color output. Solving the heat dissipation problem of LED lamps is an indispensable link in lamp design.

The thermal conductive materials commonly used in LED lamps and lanterns are mainly divided into the following categories according to their functions in lamps and lanterns:


Structural and filling thermal conductive materials. In addition to the shell function of lamps and lanterns, structural thermal conductive materials are also used for heat dissipation of LED light sources, such as thermal conductive plastics. The filling thermal conductive materials are mainly used between structural thermal conductive materials, as a connection between the two. Due to the low thermal conductivity of thermal conductive interface materials relative to heating elements and metal fins, the selection of thermal conductive interface materials is also very important, which determines the speed of heat transfer.

The following are several thermal conductive interface materials for high power LED schemes:


1. Thermal conductive silicone grease: it has excellent thermal conductivity, electrical insulation, use stability, high and low temperature resistance, etc. it is a common heat conduction material for high-power LED lamps and lanterns;


2. Thermal conductive silica gel pad: fill the air gap between heating device and heat sink or metal base to achieve heat transfer between heating part and heat dissipation part, and also play the role of insulation and shock absorption. It can meet the design requirements of miniaturization and ultra-thin, and its use convenience is incomparable with thermal conductive silicone grease;


3. Heat conduction double-sided adhesive: bonding between heat sink and heat sink, easy to use, conducive to improving production efficiency.
